How Often should you replace your exercise shoes?

This is a toughie, and varies depending on the intensity of the activity we do, how often and why. Honestly, I have a precise answer for you, but here are some things to consider when deciding whether shoes should be replaced:

  • As a rule – if you want something active (run / walk 3-4 times per week, low mileage) running / walking / cross training shoes should be replaced at least twice a year.
  • If you are an avid runner or walker (exercising more than 4 times per week), you may need to be replaced every 3-4 months.
  • If you are a full marathon training tri-athlon, half or you may need to be replaced every 2-3 months.
  • Check the tread on your shoes: Notice when the band begins to be used – this is usually a good sign that the shoes should be replaced. Want to use also notice strange patterns (wear on the heel of excessive side of the shoe or supination may be an indication of a transitory problem, such as pronation or, in these conditions can cause knee, and IT band hip problems.)
  • If you know it's a serious step motor – either in the toe or heel – then they could more shoes to know about writing that are more difficult to you.
  • If possible, if you find a shoe that you really like, buy two pairs and one alternate position. This allows the shoes to air dry, and between workouts and "recovery" of the recent exercise.

  • I know that the shoes may cost some money these days, but the money is well spent. To spend money on new shoes is much less proactive than money (and time and energy) that happen when you are recovering from an injury.

Be sure to go to a real performance shop with knowledgeable sales staff that can analyze the program and in the right place. Take notes of what you said know what size and type of shoes you need (neutral, pronation, supination, etc.). Then go online and buy them can save some money.
If you have further rationalized to replace their shoes more often – lots of shoe stores give a discount on a new pair of shoes if you donate your old. These shoes are donated then the shoes do not have to help the search for exercise, but those that protect the feet with ease.
It's a win-win.
