We all love fries, don’t we?!  Some of us even crave them.  They’re so tasty and can really satisfy a salty craving.  The question is, “How can I eat something I really like but ensure it is healthier?”

Sweet potato fries seem to get the so called “healthy” alternative on the traditional french fry.  But buyer beware. While yams are a healthy complex carbohydrate, you have to get mindful within the way through which this tasty treat is prepared.  Most restaurants use hydrogenated vegetable oil in order to smoke up fries, which continues to be linked to promoting cardiovascular disease and cancer.

So the question now is, “How can I be certain the healthy snack I’m eating is really healthy?”  Well, how about making it yourself at home?  Preparing certain foods in your house are an incredible approach to ensure it’s being prepared together with your health in mind.

Chef Rodolfo at BLR MALIBU prepares sweet potato fries for Resort guests and they’re a large hit – and they are best for you!  Here’s how he does it…

Chef Rodolfo cuts a sweet potato
PrepTime: 5 minutes
CookTime: 30 minutes
TotalTime: 35 minutes

Ingredients:
·        2 large sweet potatoes
·        1 tbsp of olive oil
·         Course salt & pepper (to taste)

Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Cut thesweet potatoes into 1/2 inch strips or wedges and toss in the oil and salt & pepper.  Arrange in a single layer on a nonstick baking sheet (uncovered).  Place in oven for 30minutes, turning once.  Enjoy!
Before
After
Another great thing about making homemade sweet potato fries is that you simply will make them anyway you like: spicy (add cayenne pepper or red chili flakes), sweet (add cinnamon and Stevia),or savory (add curry powder, rosemary or garlic).  Any way you do it, these “fries”—baked inside oven with abit of heart-healthy olive oil—are lower in fat than deep-fried, possess a lowerglycemic index than white potatoes, and they come filled with antioxidants.  ***But remember, despite the actual fact that extra virgin olive oil is heart healthy, it really is also high in calories so don’t overdue it.
If you’re much like me and you enjoy dipping your food, you can accompany your homemade sweet potato fries having a homemade dipping sauce.  Start with a 1/4 Cup of fat free Greek yogurt (a good way to obtain protein) and add…
For a spicy dipping sauce try adding 1/4 cup of chipotle salsa or hot sauce.
For a sweet dipping sauce try adding a squeeze of honey or Stevia and cinnamon.
For a savory dipping sauce try adding your preferred curry sauce or BBQ sauce.
So yum!  Now the actual question is, “Who’s making homemade Sweet Potato Fries today?!”

Cheers to health in life,
Amanda

PS: Should you be hosting Superbowl Sunday this weekend these sweet potato fries are a great addition in your healthy snack line-up!

There is often a portion of healing and rejuvenation that takes place at Fitness Ridge that I’ve been really anxious to share with you! Let me take you when camping to the spa.

At the finish of each and every long and exhausting day we open up our spa being a location for guests to relax, heal, and unwind. Yesterday was considered one of those long and exhausting days for me and i also knew exactly some tips i needed! It’s my job to opt to get a traditional Swedish massage since they feel so good and are so relaxing, but as of yesterday evening my opinion has officially changed. I still love a fantastic Swedish massage, but I was introduced to something We’ve never experienced before, and it absolutely was amazing! It’s known as the lomi lomi massage in support of one of our gifted therapists performs this incredible massage.

Meet Marie.

Marie is fantastic in every modalities she performs, but this kind of massage requires a gift and he or she has it!

Lomi lomi is a massage originating in Hawaii and traditionally used being a healing practice of native healers, a luxury with an aid to digestion, and restorative massage inside the family. Like all endeavors in old Hawaii, lomi lomi is conducted with prayer and intention. I had never met Marie prior to your massage but from the end I felt like I can wrapped my arms around her like we’d been friends our whole lives. Her power to connect with people using this modality is amazing.

Several different oils are utilized throughout this massage, which did greater than I expected!

My least favorite thing about a massage is when fast some time goes. Sometimes I’m just like the therapist is rushing to get through everything prior to 50 minutes are up. But with Marie I kept wondering only had accidentally booked an 80 minute massage since it felt want it just kept going and going. Turns out it turned out only 50 minutes, but she just flows so well who’s felt like a lot longer, that we LOVED! I do not want to hand out all of the secrets of the lomi lomi because I’d like you to go through it yourself once you come, on the other hand definitely suggest booking at the very least one lomi lomi in your stay. Since Marie is our only therapist that performs the lomi lomi, you’re thank you for visiting call and book way before you even arrive! And make sure you allow me to know what you think! I’m already ready for the next one!

Cheers to health in life,

Amanda

I drove to work yesterday with my hands clinched so tight to the steering wheel that my knuckles were white and I couldn’t feel my fingers. The fog was so thick in Ivins, UT that I couldn’t see more than 20 feet in front of me. I worried about all of our guests out on their hikes that morning and wondered what they were experiencing not being able to see anything. I assumed because I couldn’t see anything around me from where I was that everyone must be experiencing the same thing. I failed to realize that sometimes when you climb to higher ground you can escape the fog and can see clearly.

When you start feeling so stressed and bogged down and you are tempted to throw your healthy eating and exercising out the window because you can’t see much change anyway and it feels too hard, remember what is above that fog. Choose to stick it out and climb above it and you’ll find that the view, the result, is incredible.
